Important notice for all MPD Police Recruit Applicants
What does “Basic Recruit Session #105” mean?
Each police recruit class is given a class number so the “105th” would be the 105th recruit class. Each class is then given a color to distinguish them from other recruit classes that may also be at the academy. If you are entering the “105th Blue” class then your class color would be blue. Each recruit wears a colored shirt during training that identifies them with their class.
Will there be any more classes in 2009 after the March 23rd class?
Yes. The dates for future police recruit classes have not been set yet but they will be posted as soon as possible.
What is a Police Recruit Lateral?
The MPD’s Lateral Sessions are only for current Police Officers from other police departments who want to join the Memphis Police Department.
The Memphis Police Department will allow applicants who have obtained a P.O.S.T Certification and who meet the requirements of this program to transfer to the Memphis Police Department Lateral Entry Program. Applicants who meet the criteria of this program will be required to attend and complete a twelve (12) week abbreviated training curriculum.
